He is a citizen of Taiwan — but this time he decided to represent his native state Manipur. Dr Ngangbam Shantikumar Meetei, has bagged Mr World 2013 title in the annual bodybuilding championship that witnessed 150 athletes from around the world this year, held under the aegis of International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) at Zakynthos, Greece from 5-7th July 2013.

Former JNU student, who now holds a Taiwanese citizenship and lives in Taipei,

Taiwan told Hueiyen Lanpao from Greece, “I have won gold representing Manipur.

I am dedicating this achievement to my parents who are no more to see this happiest moment, and to all the mothers of my homeland Kangleipak (Manipur).”.

He participated in two categories at the world championship;

In the age group 40-49 category, in which he won gold and in the other category which has no age limit,

he bagged silver medal there.

Dr Shantikumar is the 10th child of Ngangbam Shellungba Meetei and Ngangbam Angoubi Leima

of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak in Manipur,

who currently teaches English as a professor

at De Lin Institute of Technology, Taipei. He married a Taiwanese Chinese nationality

Chen Nan Tai and they have four kids.

He has competed and won many accolades under his belt,

having represented Taiwan in the IFBB East Asian,

Asian, Asian Games and Mr.Universe. Along with his family members,

he visit Imphal on July 27.

[ Dr.Ngangbam Shantikumar Meetei has won the Taiwan National Body Building Championship 2013 held in Taichung City, Taiwan (65kg category) again.

The former Mr.Asia and four-time Mr.Delhi have been qualified to participate in the upcoming IFBB Asian Championship 2013, to be held in Kazakhstan this June, which will make his 8th debut entry to the Senior Asian Championship.

He have also been preparing for his moment in this year’s World Body Building Championship which will be held in Greece in the month of July.

Born in Manipur, into a meitei hindu family and he studied his college graduation from DM College of Arts and Commerce, Imphal. Later he completed his Master, M. Phil and Ph.D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He had represented his origin country (India) numerous times in the past.

According to a local report, due to the issues of discrimination and his personal discourse with Indian Body Building & Fitness Federation (IBBF) made him moved to Taiwan, where he is happily settled down with his family. The English professor had also changed his religion, nationality to Taiwanese and his name from Ngangbam Shantikumar Singh to Ngangbam Shantikumar Meetei.]
