DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCES IN MANIPUR

DEVELOPMENT OF SCIENCES IN MANIPUR:

Science is a new term and only institution or laboratory does not produce good science and technology. Are you aware that people who had no knowledge of chemistry invented 'Photography'? Sir Isaac Newton discovered his gravitational laws while sitting under an apple tree; Gregor Mendel's studies on hybrid peas was at the garden of a monastery or take the e.g. of Madam Curie. "Necessity is the mother of invention"!

In Manipur, during their beautiful times (Yes! Meetingu Pakhangpa 33AD, Meetingu Khongtekcha 763 AD, Meetingu Puranthapa 1247 AD, Khamba and Thoibi 1668 AD, Meetingu Mayampa--Garibniwaz 1709–1748 AD etc. enjoyed their respective times), our forefathers had everything for survival, plenty of food, wine, cloths, natural resources, fertile agricultural fields, varieties of delicious fishes, forest, water etc. so they developed, invented or discovered only those things, which they required.

Based on Cheitharon Kumpapa, even before the time of Meetingu Khumompa 1263 AD, Manipuri knew that 'Kekru' could be used in 'smelting gold and silver' or as 'organic detergents'. The Court Chronicles of the Kings of Manipur: Cheitharon Kumpapa, itself can be regarded as a very scientific manuscript or document of Manipuris.

Moirang Thoibi—the heart-throb lady of Khamba, Nongban and all the Manipuri Gentlemen, used ‘Heibi’ as 'moisturizer'! Thoibi also used ‘Ureirom’ as Lipstick, too, and it doesn’t contain lead or mercury unlike your Lakme, Avon, O’Loreal etc. Discovery of herbal shampoo 'Chenghi' by mixing various ingredients, are appreciated by female section of our society and we gave the credit to our foremothers! Chenghi even today is one of the most sought-after shampoos in Manipur. We can put 'Chenghi' into large scale production and commercialized it. The ‘Chenghi’ ingredient 'Shangbrei' is a very good 'deodorant'. Heads & Shoulders, Lux, Pantene, Dove, Clinic Plus, Dabur, Clean & Clear, Ayush etc. Chenghi gi mamangda pumnamak “Katccha”!

It is our responsibility now to look-into and develop/make earlier knowledge or new ones to become scientific and benefitting. It’s good that our indigenous game 'Polo' has been put into limelight, recently.
